Wayne Macfadden MD - Psychiatrist Focused on Substance Use Disorders

Wayne Macfadden, MD, is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist who recently worked with patients on the Spirit Lake Reservation in North Dakota living with substance use disorders and other psychiatric illnesses. In tandem with his wife Andrea, Wayne Macfadden, MD, delivered psychiatric evaluations and pathways to wellness that include medication-assisted treatments. He prescribed naltrexone to Native American patients working through alcohol use disorders and suboxone/buprenorphine to those with opiate use disorders.

Dr. Macfadden completed his bachelor’s degree in biomedical science cum laude at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, and earned his MD at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Throughout much of the 1990s, he held responsibilities with the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center as a Psychiatrist and as inpatient detoxification and Dual Diagnosis Unit Director.

Beyond providing inpatient care to patients who faced both addiction and psychological issues, he served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and taught University of Pennsylvania medical students and psychiatry residents. Extensively published in his field, Dr. Macfadden has worked in neuroscience and ophthalmology research and development as part of teams at Novartis and Roche in Switzerland, as well as with Glaxosmithkline and Johnson and Johnson. He currently is Senior Director, and Global Medical Affairs Sleep Therapeutic Franchise Lead at Jazz pharmaceuticals.
